Homage to Roberta Sparrow*

I’ve been at work since 6:45 this morning.

Not a big deal, but I didn’t fall asleep until after 2 o’clock in the morning.

Working off three cups of coffee, L-Glutamin, and these really nice tea biscuits that the British guys at work brought in. Being this tired has caused my mind to roam about unsupervised. As follows:

In about eight hours, I will have my first time travel experience. Flying from Rhode Island to California will send me back in time three hours. Completely blows my mind. Fly out at 8 from Chicago, arrive in LA at 10 … but it’s a 5 hour flight? I can’t even conceptualize that on the amount of sleep that I have(n’t) had.

I fully expect to see the vortex from Donnie Darko*. Maybe a fibonacci spiral or two.

And then I will be on the Pacific Coast for the first time in my life. Having always been locked to the eastern seaboard, I’ve heard the tales of the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the laid back demeanor of the West Coast but have never seen it for myself. I am pretty damn excited to check out all the sights. Scope out some employment opportunities. And some apartments?

Never hurts to look.

(Mom, please don't freak out yet.)

Bags are packed: Pump supplies, countless test strip bottles, two books to read, the iPod, my coveted Xanax for the flight, and the new digital camera I bought last night in a fit of Where the Hell is my Old Camera.

“And of course my LA Gear sneakers,” asserts Kerri, keeping her voice cool and sans sarcasm.

This girl is ready for the West Coast.

ouch on the long day ahead. Here, it seems like a long day when we fly to the East Coast ;).

We went to LA for the first time a couple years ago - neither one of us was thrilled about SoCal, but it was for a wedding. We actually really liked where we were visiting (Malibu, Malibu Canyon, drove up to Santa Barbara for an afternoon, went to see places my mom lived as a teenager on the "wrong" side of the tracks in Beverly Hills.) The traffic didn't even seem much different from Chicago or Boston.

If you need any tips or ideas for stuff to do. I am a native SoCal guy so I can let you know!

Have a fun and safe trip!

Hahaha love the sneakers.

I lived in Stockton for a few years when I was a kid, so it would be nice to visit the W.C. sometime again.

Have a fantastic time!!!!! I can't wait to read about the stories you'll have.

Try not to fall asleep and drool on Chris' shoulder during the flight to CA, LOL.

Poor Chris -- that kid is sure to have me asleep and drooling within 20 minutes of takeoff. The miracles of a drug assisted flight.

I'll be sure to document the trip with my New Camera (which I already almost lost by leaving it on a bookshelf at Barnes & Noble last night) and posting from some swanky Hollywood internet cafe.

Swanky. That's me.

Time travel. That is why Concorde was so weird. You could be in New York before you'd even left London.

Hope you have a great trip.

British biscuits have magical ingredients which allow you to function without sleep. They were invented on the instruction of the third Earl of Kent in 1546, in collabration with Lord Sandwich.

Have fun!

Kerri!

I hope you enjoy our coast! Are you only hitting LA this trip? When you get a chance, San Diego is an amazing city to visit (and live in!) and definitely captures the "laid back" California vibe.

Have a wonderful trip!!

Oooh. Thanks for the Donnie Darko references. It's def. in my top five movies, and also one of my fav. NY moments, which I guess I'll share since you're coming to the Big Apple soon. My freshman year at NYU a friend convinced me to go see Donnie Darko (I was a hard sell...imagine it..."Do you wanna come with me to see a movie about a guy that halluncinates a giant, scary rabbit?") at midnight at the Landmark Sunshine theater in one of the sketchier parts of the Lower East Side. Anyway, long story short, I loved it, and that night was one of my first really good NYC memories. The hot dogs we got at Gray's Papaya afterwards didn't hurt. Even if you don't (think you) like hot dogs, you should try one. 8th St. and Ave of the Americas (i.e., 6th Ave).

...Roberta Sparrow...

I have read 'The Philosophy of Time Travel' since I was 10 years old, most likely more than 1000 times by now...

Such beautiful explanations for the things I see; I thought I was crazy until I read your book...

The Tangent universe collapsed 1841 days 15 hours 54 minutes and exactly 3 seconds ago; but there are so many things I want to ask you- though I'm afraid of what it could mean if your book is much more than fiction...

The paths I see for people- the writing I notice on the walls... The portals. They all mean something...

I just havent figured them out.
Im afraid that my time is running out and I havent gotten to the bottom of who they all are and what they want from me...

Roberta, please email me at callistenics_girl@hotmail.com

I need to hear the reason of why this is happening to me... I need to find the answer.

03JAN07, Happy New and good morning.
Its 12:57am which now makes it actually 04JAN07.
Any way, I just saw the movie, and I liked it!
A question to Stephen Hawkins and you others that live in the world of de-ja-vu.
Where does this fit in the realms of time travel?
If the only thing that could move as fast or faster than light is pure energy, what about the energy in our spirits? Im speeking of creating your own worm whole while sleeping and not understanding of what had just happened. If I lost you all, Im talking about the probabilities of astro-projection where the energy of our spirit and mind staying connected but leave the body. If a person has a "having been there and done that before" (de-ja-vu) shouldnt that techniquely mean that you have just moved forward in time to a point of paticular activity and returned to your lastpoint of origin. Although, one drawback to this belief, we conciously dont realize this has happened untill we return to that moment in time or final steps leading to that moment.
If anyone reads this and asks the same questions write back! Im interested- Williamssteven1966@yahoo.com
