Six Things on Friday.
1. Tomorrow it is supposed to be almost 60 degrees in Boston. Perfect weather for a PreUnion. (Someone called it “The Sucrose Social.” I laughed and begged for rights to reprint their quip.) Starts at High Noon. Meet in the lobby? I have to be at a real estate appointment at 4 o’clock, so I can stay until about 3:40-ish. But I am very excited…The tallied total looks like this: Nicole, Lyrehca, Julia, Shannon, me, and The Maybes include Heidi and Jen? Caren, are you coming? Who am I missing? I tried to go back through the comments and realized that I can’t keep track of things to save my life. It’s a miracle that I haven’t accidentally filled my pump with shampoo yet.
2. The Ricola Cherry Herb Throat Drops are both delicious and making considerable strides
against the plague that has settled into my throat. I recommend them to everyone. And I would also like to invite the guys from the Ricola commercials to come play at the PreUnion tomorrow.3. The arch nemesis of my diabetes this week? Girl Scouts and their obscenely expensive yet highly addictive cookie arsenal. Those Lemon Pastry cookies are great. O
ne unit per cookie. Touchdown.4. When it comes to jobs, mine gets awards for being The Most Crummy. Today’s adventures have my boss timing people’s lunch breaks and issuing mandates on the amount of breaks people can take per day. I am eagerly awaiting the assignment of my cubby and nap time. I am currently using my college diploma as a placemat.
5. New “Generation D” column is up at dLife. Also, Megan at This is my Life has written a terrific post called “The Classroom.” Recommend a read.
6. Private (after a fashion) Message for The Dishwasher Coalition of the Yellow Bench Café: You are right. Waitressing at The Yellow Bench Café was one of the greatest jobs I’ve ever had because it threw your daughter and me into the most Instant Friendship Ever. Your recent diagnosis as a Type 2 diabetic may give us something in common, but I want you and The Wife as healthy as possible. Get healthy!! If you do not comply with my requests, I may resort to telling Leo to attack you while you sleep. He’s about 15 pounds of Fat Cat. Best be careful.
See you tomorrow for the PreUnion!
High noon.

Lobby at noon. See ya!
Have you ever seen someone else's One Touch test strip somewhere and felt a certain brother/sisterhood with the unknown person?
I have.
Maura - Absolutely have. It's a kinship that always surprises me and makes me feel like I'm one of many instead of just One.
I sooo wish I could make the Pre-Union :)
Can't fathom another drive into Beantown right now after last week.
Hope you all have fun!
Wow, mentioned in Kerri's blog. I'm honored.
Have fun at the Pre-Union. Wish I could come.
And good job once again on the dlife column.
I won't be able to make it after all :-(. Have fun! Hopefully we'll meet up at another event.
Jen
Hey Kerri!
Awesome article over at d-life! Everything from the title right down to the ending thoughts (AND tribute to Larry, of course...). I just loved it.
You brought up some very valid points too. I guess I've never really thought too much about my old strips, other than I don't just toss them anywhere while out in public.
At home, as you read, they sit in piles near the meter, and tend to also scatter all over, just like everyone else. When I'm out and about I stick them into my pump pouch (I wear a larger pouch to accommodate my cozmo, attached cozmonitor, the vial of strips and a lancing device - sounds HUGE, but it's not too bad. Something I picked up from Unique Accessories I think).
So, every few weeks I pull out what seems like hundreds of strips from it and toss them into the garbage.
But, your column made me think about it - and is there some ten mile high mountain of used test strips at some secret national test strip recycling center? The strip makers padding the budget by secretly recycling materials? Seriously though - do you think they really are recyclable? That might merit some investigation...
On the PreUnion - I really wish I could join you. Not only to represent the male population of d-bloggers, but to also witness first hand and take part in the first of what may come to be a very special annual event.
I also really wish I could meet many of you face to face. We all have a very special D connection, even if it is just "virtual" for now. Funny how easy it is to connect with other D'ers eh?
You all really mean a lot to me, and I'm so glad that we have this venue to share our lives with each other. It in itself makes a difference to me.
And yes, I do feel a bit famous - I have officially been linked from the d-life site. Pretty cool (thank you!). Do you think any of us will make the show some day?
Golly, I better get crackin' on that treadmill - I need to trim down for my upcoming debut on CNBC!!
Hey - we should do some kind of sit-com show around daily living with diabetes. C'mon - there's some serious potential there! We could be the next Seinfeld!!
Sorry I had to miss all the fun.
I'm battling the respiratory yuck- certainly wouldn't want to "share the luv'" (in this situation)
hope ya'll had a blast!
